What is Hot Shots?
Hello Tennis provides an industry leading delivery of Tennis Hot Shots catering for kids developmental readiness and individual needs. Our coaches love delivering tennis to kids and are proven and certified facilitators of the program. Sessions are specifically designed to ensure kids are engaged, active & learning. The Hello Tennis philosophy of Play, Compete, Have Fun helps keep our classes focused!
Our program develops kids mentally, and physically. A child’s early years are when fine motor skills are developed, and tennis is amazing for developing coordination, speed, strength, and agility.
Tennis Hot Shots is above all – FUN! Kid develop their social and problem-solving skills while playing in a team, and as individuals. Also, they learn how to cope with wins and loses fairly.
Hot shots tennis uses modified equipment scaled to the child’s age and needs to learn to play tennis. Scaled equipment modified to the physiology of kids includes: three different levels of low compression balls (red, orange and green balls), shorter racquets and varied court sizes which make the game easier and more fun to play. Sessions are designed to ensure kids pick up basic technical skills whilst always playing, competing & having fun.
Red Ball (Ages 5–8)
The Hot Shots Red stage is for beginners. The red ball is larger than a yellow ball and doesn’t bounce as high (just 25 per cent compression), making it a breeze for even the youngest players to hit it comfortably. The courts in Red Stage are much smaller and easier for kids to move around.
Tennis ball: red ball (25 per cent compression)
Recommended racquet size: 19–21 inches
Orange Ball (Ages 8–10)
After mastering the Red stage, children move up to Orange stage where the ball bounces a little higher (50 per cent compression) and courts are a little bigger.
Tennis ball: orange ball (50 per cent compression)
Recommended racquet size: 23–25 inches
Green Ball (Ages 8+)
The ball uses real tennis ball (75 per cent of a yellow tennis ball) and children play on a full-size court.
Court size: 10.97 m × 23.78 m (full court)
Tennis ball: green ball (75 per cent compression)
Recommended racquet size: 25–27 inches
Tennis ball: red ball (25 per cent compression)
Recommended racquet size: 19–21 inches
Hot Shots Equipment
What is a low-compression ball?
Red, orange and green low-compression balls don’t bounce as high as a yellow ball, making them easier for children to hit. Hitting the ball between hip and waist height is perfect for developing players.
Choosing the correct size racquet for your child
Picking the right tennis racquet is like having the right tool for the job. Your child should be able to hold the racquet comfortably when their arm is extended and be able to swing the racquet easily with plenty of moverability.
Making sure the racquet is the right size will help kids with fluency in their swing and help them to grip the racquet gently & not squeeze the grip too tight.
Hello Tennis are proud to partner with Dunlop and sell 19 inch to 26 inch racquets & 25 inch & 26 inch graphite racquets.
